Last Weekend I moved to the Giili Islands with my friends Willy, Basti and Chris.
The Gili Islands consist of the three tiny Islands Gili Trawangan, Gili Meno and Gili Air and they are located very close to the west coast in the North of Lombok.
Our trip started Saturday morning – so after going out on Friday there was not a lot sleep. Anyway I was excited for the trip. I was picked up at 6.30, and a very friendly Indonesian Guy drove me to a Restaurant, where I met my friends from Kerebokan and other people, who also joined us in heading to the Gilis. The speedboats to Gili Islands start from Padang Bai, so we had to drive around 1,5-2 hours in the north of Bali to the East Coast til we arrived at the harbour. On the speedboat we could sit on the deck – so we had a perfect view on the landscapes we we’re passing. In Gili Trawangan there is not a proper harbour, so you just have to jump from the boat and wade through the water to get to the islands – I can tell you: that’s such a great feeling.
On Gili Trawangan, which is the most visited and most “crowded” islands, we searched for an accamodation and found two great bungalows for 250k (person/night) including breakfast, which layed at the end of the main street Jalan Gili Tranwangan, so that we were far away from trouble of tourists.
On all the three Gili Islands Cars and Scooters are not allowed, so we hired a bike – otherwise you can walk or drive with a horse carriage. The Island is that small, that you can have walk around it in, I guess, 2-3 hours.
We spended our time for relaxing, chilling at the beach, exploring the island with our bikes and we made a boat trip for snorkeling. We decided to spend some more money than others do for such a trip to have a privat boat, so we were just 6 people, together with two girls from South America and Amsterdam.
The trip was awesome, because the water is so clear that we saw turtles and fishes. As you see, I took some pictures with my GoPro 🙂
In the noon the boat driver brought us to Gili Air. The Island is even quiter than Gili Trawangan. We had a great lunch and relaxed in the white sand of the beach.
Heading back to Gili Trawangan, we could see an amazing sunset. If you’re in Gili Trawangan you need to go to the sunset bar. That’s one of the most beautiful places I’ve seen.
What comes after sunset? Yey right, the nightlife. Gili Trawangan has some great bars, some with live music, and every evening there is one club which is opened in the night for the partypeople.
We had a great weekend and it was definitely not the last time, that I will go to the Gili Islands. Next Time I want to see more places in Gili Air and Gili Meno.
