Hey guys, I´m back again and today I´m in Sumbawa. So if you ever thought about visiting another island of Indonesia, Sumbawa may be the right choice for you. Here are a few facts about this beautiful place: 1) The journal If you like to travel to Sumbawa there are two options: Going by airplane or by scooter. If you fly you have to rent a scooter here. That is possible, of course, but you don´t know what you get. Sumbawa isn´t as crowded as Bali, so there aren´t so many rentals. We went by scooter. That in contrast wasn´t that intricate, but it costed us a lot of time. We first went to Lombok, which took us 8h from Uluwatu and then continued at the next day for another 7h until we arrived in Sumbawa. That´s a pretty long ride and you should consider not driving in Lombok or Sumbawa when it´s dark – that´s really dangerous! 2) Landscape The landscape in Sumbawa is really amazing. That place is pretty untouched which is nice for a change from the crowded Bali. You´ll find lots of hills and mountains and of course forests. Furthermore there are pretty nice bays – very romantic. I can recommand you to go in or after the rainy season, because now the plants look a little bit desiccated. 3) Activities We are in West Sumbawa (YoYo´s Bay) and that area is a pure surfer´s place. You´ve got many famous surf spots there, like YoYos, Super Suck or Scar Reef. But even if you´re not surfing, you can go snorkeling or bathing. Sumbawa is really quiet, so don´t think of partying. 4) Living Well, the living situation is ok. You can find pretty nice rooms, but it can happen to you (like it happend to us) that you don´t have any water, which is a really uncomfortable situation. At least they are cheap – we payed 150 000 Rp. for one night. Sumbawa is a muslim isle like most of the Indonesian isles. Therefore you should have in mind, that you can´t were just a bikini or boardshorts when you visit the villages. The locals are very friendly indeed, but they excpect respecting their religion. 5) Eating Don´t expect too much. There aren´t beautiful restaurants in every corner like in Bali. If you´re lucky, you´ve got a restaurant with your accomodation. If not, you can go to restaurants from other accomodations or to little Warungs in the village. Nevertheless the food is good and pretty cheap. End of the story: If you´re a surfer or just want to have some piece and quiet, Sumbawa is perfect for you.
