Good evening everyone.
As we have some girls to visit for two weeks we reserved some of the tourist stuff to do in these two weeks. One of these attractions was the Tanah Lot temple, which is a hindu temple not very far from where we live. Calculating the traffic, it took us around one hour to get there.. Sounds long, but for Bali it’s not! 😀
The temple is famous for its location in the ocean. It is surrounded by the blue sea, which traps you from getting there when the tide comes in. We were a bit unsure about whether we would be lucky to make it to the temple, as we had noticed how high the waves were a day before, as we sat at the beach. The water came in so much, that people had to save their towels and belongings. However completely optimistic we arrived at Tanah Lot. It was a little pathway a long the shore, on which you came past some other little temples as well. We were absolutely mind-blown by the view and it took us a long photo session until we finally reached the temple we were actually there for. We saw from far away, that the water was coming in quite much, but we decided to go there anyway.
Some locals helped us cross the sea by taking our hand, as the water nearly came up to our knees. Reaching the temple we were asked to drink from the holy water that came out of the rocks and in addition a local placed a little yellow flower in our hair and stuck some rice on our forehead. This was important so that we were allowed to walk up the stairs of the temple. It was an amazing view and a pretty much interesting experience.
We were told that the sunset should be absolutely beautiful down at the temple, but as it is, lots of tourists come around that time. But who knows, we might be coming another time and then we will watch the sunset. We will let you know! 🙂
So hear from us tomorrow!
Yours, Kristin & Helen
