The Tanah Lot temple is located in Tanah Lot which is a rock formation located 20 km from Denpasar. With our scooter it took us about 50 minutes from Kuta. The way there is not so easy because there are not much signs to there. We found the way with google maps, which is very helpful at your first weeks in Bali.
The scooter ride was very nice but chaotic. Very nice because of the beautiful nature you see on your way there and chaotic because of the traffic! But that there is a lot of traffic in Bali is nothing new.
The temple is a popular tourist and cultural place for photography and general visits. It sits on a large rock and is surrounded by water. He is one of the seven sea temples around the Balinese coast. In addition to Balinese mythology, the temple was significantly influenced by Hinduism. We went there a day before the Balinese new year. There were a lot of ceremonies on our way there, what made our ride longer than it usually would be. After a 50 minute ride we arrived there. You have to pay 30.000 IDR entry and 2.000 IDR for scooter parking. The walk to the temple was funny. There were a lot of tourists on this day because of the ceremonies and especially a lot of asian tourists. The funny thing was, that my friends and me were a bigger attraction for asian tourists than the Tanah Lot temple itself. Every 5 minutes they asked us to take pictures with them. There were husbands who posed with us for a photo while his wife took the photos or some girls who told us how to pose while her mother took the photos. After the third time it was a bit annoying so we went to a quiter place. The area around the temple was very beatiful. There are a lot of rocks and cliffs in this area. Perfect to take beautiful pictures .
All in all it was a very nice and funny daytrip and I would recommend to visit this place. But I think if you go there on a day, when there are no ceremonies, it would be not that interesting than with ceremonies. The temple itself is very small and not so spectacular than I thought. But the area around the temple is very beautiful especially when there are ceremonies.
