One amazing thing on Bali is, that nearly every day feels like weekend. In Germany I usually plan my days from the early morning to the evening and so on. I am often really fully planned due to university, hobbies and working. It is a really great variety just to hang out and stay up in the morning, not knowing how the day will end 🙂
Today my friends and I decided during a typical German breakfast in our villa what we could do. We decided to take our car and just drive a little bit around to explore the surroundings, because up to know we did not visit so many things.
Having a car on Bali, especially as a student, is not very typical as we observed. Many students can not understand our choice and I think everyone will advise you to rent a motorbike. I need to say that still after riding the car about approximately one month, we are still glad to have it. Of course, you are not as far as the motorbikes, which drive aggressively through the roads, but in the end, there is not a high time loss. We started with other students in Kerobokan to go to the University in Jimbaran and we arrived nearly directly behind them. Another advantages are: air conditioning, no sweaty hair due to a helmet, being five girls we are on the one hand more secure (sometimes locals steal handys or bags from you while being on your scooter) as well, in this horrible traffic we can not get under the wheels so fast AND shopping foodstuff is much easier.
All in all, renting a car is in our case a very good choice. So it is also easy to start a tour for a ride not knowing where it will end. Finally we came out in Uluwatu and parked our car at a parking place for 5000 rupiah (dividing this through 5 and convert it into euro, it is nearly nothing).
From there we walked down some big stairs to come out on a high cliff with a great view on the ocean and a famous surf spot. We were so speechless about the wonderful view and atmosphere coming around from a restaurant located on different areas of the cliff, where so many people sit at the edge to photograph or just observe the spectacular waves and surfers. Up to now we just saw the touristical surfing areas, which can not be compared to this spot. Since it was afternoon we took a nice table in the restaurant and enjoyed the sunset, wind and background music, while eating fish or pizza.
It was again a wonderful, not planned day, and we will for sure visit this place again.
