This weekend my roommate Teresa and I rode to central Bali with our scooters. From our home in Seminyak we drove through Kerobokan, passed beautiful ricefields and reached the temple Pura Tirtha Empul after about 1,5h. The temple is situated near Ubud and is dedicated to the gods of water. Therefore many Hindus come to this spiritual place for purity-ceremonies and baths. We entered the big facility which consists of several gardens, pools, ponds and shirenes and were really impressed. Everything was styled very detailed and artistically.
We also watched some locals that were praying and giving sacrifices before entering the pools. In there they washed their bodies with the holy fresh water, which comes from a sacred spring. The mood was silent and everybody seemed to be focusing and praying to become “pure” and clean again.
After spending some silent moments we headed over to the big pond, where hundreds of Koi-fish were feed by tourists. We sat down in a little Warung nearby and had a snack, before we also fed the fish and then left the beautiful temple.
This was a very spiritual and interesting experience.
