Selamat datang and welcome to my best experience since I am in Bali.
One day before I would like to visit the Jimbaran fish market. As I thought I found it, I parked my scooter and continued to go by feet. It wasn´t the fish market, but I went along a temple, where many men were busy. They invited me to come in and have a look and they explained they have a big ceremony tomorrow and I am welcome to be a part of it.
Is there a better way to get to know a new culture? I think not.
So I came back the next day. I wore a sarong and a scarf on my hips. They people of the ceremony invited me to come in. They were really interested in me, who I am, where do I live, what I am doing here, what I am studying. They gave me water and talked to me before the ceremony began. Many people sat on the floor of the temple and were talking and laughing. Some children were very interested in me, because I look so different to them.
Then the ceremony began. The priest prayed by himself with a bell for the sacrificial offerings . The people brought more and more of them, the music was playing. Everything went a few times. The people motivated me to took many pictures with my camera. But I was a little bit shy and was very carefully, because I didn´t want to disturb anybody.
Then came the part, where everybody prayed. They gave me also a bowl with flowers and incense sticks, so I could do what they did. I tried to do like them and the people were so friendly, they showed me what to do and had much fun with me.
We prayed with flowers, we drank fermented rice water and put rice corns on our forehead.
After that, the young boys played traditional music which you can hear very often, when you go along a Balinese street. There were traditional Balinese dancers, male and female. They were so beautiful and every gesture was so detailed.
The people were so nice; they wanted to bring me coffee and tea and motivated me to sit down next to them to have a good view for the whole ceremony. After that, the first part was repeated and after three hours everybody was tired and went home happily.
It was the best evening I ever had in Bali. I wasn´t only a tourist, I was part of a different culture and religion, that was absolutely amazing. They invited me to come again and I am sure I will do it.
