If you visit Bali as a student you will have a completely different life than at home. But don´t think your semester abroad will be a vacation for four months. I wouldn´t describe it as that. Here you have a everyday life. You have a home, you have neighbors, you have (new) friends and for sure you have roommates who kind of replace your family. You go to university and you have (new) hobbies like surfing and so on. So you see it´s a bit similar to your life at home. BUT here are a lot of things you won´t find at home. In Bali you will see the sun 365 days a year, you see smiles everywhere, your scooter is your companion, the food is very different but awesome and cheap (!) and particulary you see a different culture which affects on your everyday life.
So here´s a litte insight into the day of a exchange stundent in Bali:
Your alarm clock rings at 7 o clock in the morning. After a quick shower you eat something if you have enough time and jump on your scooter to drive to university. The traffic in Bali is horrible but you get very quickly used to it. Lessons start at 9 am and usually end at 3 pm. After your lessons you jump on your scooter again to drive home, to the beach, to the shopping mall, to your surfing lessons, to your friends house or to a warung with delicious food if you´re hungry. There is so many you can spend your free time with. The sun goes down at 6:30 pm so make sure you get a great spot at the beach to see it. After that you meet your rommates (=family) at home to have a relaxed evening at your terrace or balcony, but make sure you´re wearing mosquito blocker! Either you spend your evening like this, or you stay longer at your sunset spot and have some drinks. But there are also days, where you have to work on some homework, case studies or presentations. It´s important to do them. The lecturers are very friendly but strict. So make sure you end your work on time and you won´t have problems with your lect urers. After all you study in Bali and thats the big difference to a vacation! After a long day with a lot of fun and many impressions you are very tired and go to sleep. 🙂
