The biggest temple I’ve seen so far on Bali is Besakih, the mothertemple. The Mother Temple of Besakih, or Pura Besakih, in the village of Besakih on the slopes of Mount Agung in eastern Bali, is the most important, the largest and holiest temple of the Hindu religion in Bali. The way to the temple goes over hills as the temple is located around 1000 meters high. It consists of 23 separate buildings, whereas the main buildings weren’t allowed to be visited as a ceremony was taking place at the time I was there. The temple was just breathtaking. The buildings itself with the green around it and the way it is located are just awesome, as well as the stunning view , as it is located 1000 meters high.
Moreover, there are people wanting money for showing you the temple as it is not allowed to visit the temple without a local. That is actually not true. Don’t make the mistake to pay for a local, as it is totally fine to visit it on your own! It is just another way to get money out of the tourists. You are already paying for the tickets and for the parking and they even ask you to make a donation. That money should be enough for one day. But if you leave all the trouble of the thousands of people behind and find a spot for yourself, it gives a really good possibility to just relax for a while.
