Hello everyone! Selamat malam!
During the break my friends and I visit different attractions and locations on Bali. This time we visited the Pura Besakih Temple, located in east Bali on approximatly 1000m at the beginning of the volkano Gunung Agung. It is the oldest, biggest and holiest hindu temple. So a must be to see during your stay on Bali!
It is built on six levels and consists of different complexes. After a long drive by our car (enjoying the air conditioning, while the scooter drivers are sewating under the sun 😉 ) we arrived at the parking area. We bought our tickets for 15000 rupiah per person including parking. Please take a sarong with you, because otherwise you have to buy or borrow one there and it could get quite expensive. The guardians over there won´t let you go in even if you wear long trousers. Thats at least what we experienced. They just want you to spent as much money as possible. After buying the entrance tickets, you will have to go 5 minutes uphill. Before that the next people will stop you and ask if they should bring you up with their motorbike. Of course this will cost again money. So if you are in any case able to walk, just let it be. It´s not that hard 🙂
Arriving at the beginning of the temple assets, the next guardians will stop you due to the fact that you need one of them at their side to visit the whole area. After reading many trip advisor reviews and other stuff we knew that you are free to move there, so we just went straight and tried to ignore them. But it really did not work. They won´t let us visit the inner part until we go with a guardian (and of course, give him money for this). We made a good price (15000 rupiah again for each person) and the guardian took us to the different complexes. We could watch a ceremony, had a wonderful view and enjoyed the refreshing wind.
Finally everyone should visit this beautiful temple area but should be aware of these exhausting people who try to get your money. At the end if you sum it all up, we payed 35000 rupiah. Compared to german museums it is nothing, but I do not like the way they want to get it. If you have to pay this amount at the beginning, no one will care. Maybe one time they will change there system!
