last Wednesday I had to participate in a cultural progam. I love lying on the beach (as you might know already) but my roommates forced me to do some cultural stuff.;-) First of all, it was a great day and I will definitely go for all the beautiful things Bali has to offer, voluntary !
We organized a driver and our first station was the monkey forest in Sangeh (north part of Denpasar town). This place has a unique spirit! It’s a quiet forest with a temple, large trees and over 600 monkeys inhabiting the area. We made some great pictures with the monkeys and even saw a little snake crossing our path. Our guide told us that it was toxic so we better had a few meters safety distance. Really worth to visit ! In Bali everything is more down to earth, but walking through this forest is another level, for me it was kind of meditation.
Our next destination was a little spice garden. Our driver seemed to be a good friend of the owner so we had a look there. He showed us spices, fruits and different sorts of coffee which all grow in his garden. I think we had good luck this day, we also saw an almost invisible chamelion sitting on a coffee plant. Impressive little creature ! At the end we were allowed to taste some selfmade teas and coffees which tasted really “interesting”. Afterwards we walked to a river about 200m from the spice garden and felt like being in a jungle with crazy vegetation in the middle of nowhere. The vegetation in Bali is unbelievable, everything is bigger and more colorful, the same with the insects what some of might don’t like. But in my opinion even wasps and so on are more relaxed here in Bali than at home in Europe:-) So don’t be afraid !
Our last station was a temple 15 km in the East of Ubud. Unfortunately I have to go to a Party right now, so I’ll tell you something about it next week ….
See you, Meikl
