Welcome to Paradise Island!
This weekend we went to the Gilis. Our speed boat started from Padang Bai and took us about 3 hours to go there. On the way we also stopped at Lombok. Compared to Seminyak or CangguBeach, the sand of Lombok looks white. Although I have only seen the harbour and the palms of Lombok, I definetely want to go there to explore everything in detail. After one more hour we arrived at the first island of the three islands: Gili Air. It looked very quiet and peaceful. The second and smallest island, Gili Meno, was even more quiet. When we ferried across to the biggest of the three islands, Gili Trawangan, everyone on the deck became completely wet because of the huge waves between the islands. But it was so much fun. When I took the first step on the white sand, I couldn’t stop grinning anymore. It was such a good feeling to be appreciated by crystal-clear blue water and the swinging palm frond. After having found a cheap and central bungalow for 250.000 Rupiah / night including AC, hot water, shower and breakfast, we went to the beach with our snorkelling masks. As the water is very flat for about hundred meters, it was difficult to go into the water – we didn’t have fins with ous unfortunately.
The next day we had a snorkelling tour which started at 10 o’clock, balinese time for sure. With a boat made from timber we went to three different snorkelling spots in front of the three islands. At the turtle point, as it is called, we saw many, many beautiful huge turtles. It was even possible to swim besides them. This time we had fins and it was much easier to paddle around to enjoy the amazing underwater-world. Especially the underwater-world in front of Gili Meno and Gili Air was colourful and with many fish. In the evening we went dining in the Aston-Hotel. Although staying there one night would cost 2.4 million Rupiah, the BBQ-buffet “only” cost 150.000 Rupiah. There was fresh-caught snapper, prawns and many different types of fish, beef and other good meat and vegetables.
After the dinner we took the carriage back. Carriages on Gili Trawangan are only carried by one horse. The vehicle only has two hoops. While taking it, I felt so sorry for the poor horse carrying people. Still, doing it once was an unforgettable adventure because we almost overturned to both sides.
Finally, the trip to the Gilis with 2 nights overstay was like holiday in paradise because it is so beautiful there. As no scooters are allowed there and dogs do not exist, everything is very relaxed and quiet. On the Gilis you can just escape from the hectic life in Kuta with all its traffic and sometimes dirty air .
