As I am away from home now more than a month and my hair began to look stupid, I decided to get a haircut last week. First of all it was not easy for me to find a barber-shop near our house, but then I remembered that I had seen a nice place near sunset road a few weeks ago. So I took my scooter and drove to the little shop called: “the roots” (It´s situated in Seminyak near Burger King).
I entered the “old-school” looking room and asked the staff if they got time for me. “Sure!” answered a girl at the front desk and after my barber had finished his cigarette at the terrace I could have a seat in a comfortable leather chair. The studio is designed very cool and classic, with a lot of wood on the walls and old Jägermeister bottles standing on big shelves. Also the music adapted to the atmosphere as they played songs from Jimi Hendrix and other Rock bands.
After I told the young friendly hairdresser how I wanted to look (by pointing on drawings on the wall) he began his work. I relaxed and enjoyed his professional work. After about half an hour I was finished and felt happy about my new look. Then the guy even put some pomade in my hair- after that I looked like a Russian criminal, but anyway I could wash out the hair wax at home. Even some Balinese guys liked my new look and were joking around with me.
When I was ready I wanted to pay and did not expect the cheap price: 45.000 Rupiah for my haircut! I never had a haircut in Austria for 3,00€ before so I felt very satisfied. Afterwards I spend another while in the barber shop to look at t-shirts and hair styling products before leaving the shop.
“The roots” is a very laid-back place in my opinion and if you like to change your look and get an old-school haircut this is the perfect place for you to go.
