Some weeks ago I got to know Nadine – one of the most admirable persons I have met so far. She and her boyfriend Chris moved from Germany to Bali and started running their own business in Bali one year ago. Float was born when Chris carved a dolphin from a piece of driftwood for Nadine’s birthday and she started wearing it on a leather lace and afterwards got asked by several people where she bought her beautiful necklace.
I was lucky Nadine invited me to their office and showed me how much love and detail they put in their work. She paints all the jewellery by herself!
The idea behind Float:
“We make jewelry from driftwood that we collect on the various beaches of Bali. We make jewelry for travelling, creative, ocean-minded people. Hard working people being focussed on fullfilling their dreams that yet do know when to stop to inspire themselves. People floating, just like a piece of driftwood, in the ocean of life. “
Of course I could not resist and bought a necklace and a bracelet and I’m definitely coming back for more, because I think this the perfect gift for my family and friends at home, since I want to bring them something nice from Bali which doesn’t look like one of those standard souvenirs.
Each piece of jewellery has a little tag on it which says:
“Wind, waves and currents washed this piece of driftwood ashore. It was then collected, carved and polished. Now in your handy its journey continues. May it guide you through winds, waves and currents of life in the same way as it found its way to shore safely.”
Next year the two of them are going to look for shops in Germany that are willing to sell their jewellery. I’m really looking forward to that and I wish the two of them all the best.
