Ubud is a small town in Bali. It is located in the north-east from Denpasar and it is the cultural center of Bali. I went there by scooter which took me 1 hour. The roads of Ubud are edged from palms and rice terraces. Everywhere you look you see beautiful nature, temples and little cafés.
My first stop in Udud was the monkey forest. There are three temples in the monkey forest and a lot of monkeys as the name suggests. It is a jungle atmosphere with a lot of big trees, lianas and humidity. So make sure you drink enough on your trip. But you have to be careful. The monkeys look cute but they are really aggressive. Especially when you come closer to their babys they get really angry. Don´t wear sunglasses! In any case the monkeys will steal them. Also you have to be careful if you have some food with you. The monkeys are not afraid to jump on your body and steal all your food. Just keep distance and nothing will happen. If you respect the monkeys they won´t do anything. I paid around 30.000 IDR what are about 2 euros. Parking is for free!
After the monkey forest I visited the rice terraces of Ubud. The rice terraces are the perfect place to go for a walk. The terraces look like stairs filled with water. There is also a friendly farmer which pose for some photos with tourists. But be careful and watch your step because otherwise you could step into a plantation full of water.
Afterwards I was hungry. I went to a beautiful café and ordered nasi goreng with chicken and a mango lassie. In Ubud there a lot of nice restaurants, cafes or warungs, where everyone can find something to eat. After that great lunch I strolled through a sweet shopping street where I bought some bracelets, shirts and other nice and cheap stuff. I really enjoyed the silence of Ubud. It is completely different than for example Kuta. In Ubud everything is more relaxed, nobody gets on nerves!
I end my daytrip in Ubud by watching a traditional danceshow in the Ubud Palace. I am very fascinated from these traditional dances. The women who dance are so precise in their dancemoves, that a single eye blink or a fingermove turn to a whole dancemove.
Summarized I felt completely in love with Ubud and highly recommend it to visit this magic place. But I would stay there a few nights at a homestay to have more time to enjoy Ubuds relaxed atmosphere.
