As many beaches in the touristic centres in Bali (like Kuta, Legian or Seminyak) are very crowded, my friends and I decided to make a day trip to a more quiet area. So we rode to Bingin beach near Uluwatu with our scooters. The ride from our home in Seminyak to there takes about one hour (depending on traffic).
We parked our motorbikes near the cliffs and walked to the stairs that lead you down to the shore. The way to get down is very spectacular and steep and as we were feeling hungry we sat down in a little Warung near the path. Our first impression was okay for a cheap restaurant and as we really were longing for some cold drinks and food we accepted the long waiting period and enjoyed a great view. As we finally got our drinks we watched the surfers catching some big waves- really impressive.
But our food seemed to be a bigger deal. We waited and waited and were getting concerned by several dogs running into the kitchen, a topless fat guy who appeared to be the cook and a loudly sneezing kitchen help who prepared the food.
Finally we got our plates: cold nasi campur, an awful tasting mie goreng and chicken satay which was a bit raw. At this point we should have left the restaurant, but as we are polite guys we tried the served dishes. After this “special lunch” that was grumbling in our stomachs we headed down to the water to relax. Bingin beach is very clean and offers a relaxing atmosphere. The water is crystal clear, but you have to watch the ground when you want to go for a swim- there are sharp stones and corals on the ground. The drinks at the beach bars are very cheap and there are several nice spots to enjoy the sun and good music.
All in all it was a nice day, but maybe we try another restaurant the next time we go to Bingin beach.
